Discovering Britain – Exploring History and Culture

Programme Overview and Mission

Discovering Britain – Exploring History and Culture is an initiative dedicated to helping individuals understand the rich tapestry of British history and culture. The project achieves this through immersive outdoor experiences, taking participants on educational journeys to significant historical and cultural landmarks across the UK. By moving beyond the classroom, the programme makes learning about the nation's past both tangible and memorable.

Activities and Hands-on Learning

Since 2025, the programme has partnered with MIGRANT SUPPORT to deliver a diverse range of outdoor activities focused on cultural exchange. Participants do more than just observe; they explore heritage sites, museums, and historic towns, while also participating in hands-on workshops. These sessions involve traditional British arts, crafts, and music, providing a practical and engaging way to experience the local culture.

Language Integration and Social Connection

A key feature of the project is the integration of English language learning, which helps participants improve their everyday communication skills in real-world contexts. Delivered in collaboration with local community groups, the project fosters meaningful connections and promotes social integration. It creates a two-way street of learning where participants deepen their knowledge of British heritage while also sharing their own unique traditions.

Accessibility and Inclusion

The project is designed to be inclusive and accessible to all, regardless of background. Thanks to dedicated funding, the programme covers the costs of transport, site visits, professional workshop facilitation, and the provision of culturally inclusive materials. This support ensures that every participant can build confidence, cultural pride, and a stronger sense of belonging through these enriching shared experiences.

Well-being through Nature and Art

Programme Mission and Purpose

“Well-being through Nature and Art” is designed to support participants’ mental, emotional, and physical well-being through a unique blend of creative, nature-based, and social activities. The programme helps participants engage in art and craft activities, learn new skills, and meet people, while simultaneously building confidence and practical, transferable skills.

Core Activities

The initiative offers a diverse range of experiences to promote health and engagement. Activities include mindful walks, yoga and relaxation sessions, and hands-on arts and creative workshops. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to give back by volunteering in local community projects, further strengthening their connection to the world around them.

Delivery and Community Impact

Delivered in partnership with local groups and MIGRANT SUPPORT, the project is facilitated by experienced tutors in Manchester and will soon expand to Nottingham city centre. These sessions provide safe and inclusive spaces where participants can develop resilience, reduce social isolation, and build supportive peer networks. Through artistic expression and mindfulness, individuals enhance their emotional health and sense of belonging.

Support and Participation

Dedicated funding ensures that the programme remains accessible to everyone. This support covers professional facilitators, workshop materials, venue hire, and transport for outdoor activities, allowing participants to fully immerse themselves in experiences that nurture creativity and social cohesion.
